In these days of advancements in space exploration, many countries aspire to land on the Moon. India, being one of these countries, took its first step today. The country witnessed a significant milestone with its vehicle named Chandrayaan-3, which means “Moon Vehicle” in Sanskrit.
The launch took place shortly after 14:30 local time from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Those who wanted to witness this moment live gathered at the space center. Additionally, over one million people followed the flight live on YouTube.
Late in the evening, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) made an announcement on Twitter. The statement confirmed that Chandrayaan-3 was in a “definite orbit” and that the “journey to the Moon has begun.” They also added that the spacecraft was in normal condition.
The Prime Minister of India also made a statement regarding these developments. He emphasized that India has embarked on a new chapter in its space adventure. Chandrayaan-3, developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), consists of a lander, propulsion module, and rover.
The spacecraft’s objective is to safely land on the lunar surface, collect data, and gain more information about the composition of the Moon. After acquiring this data, numerous scientific experiments will be conducted. So far, only three countries, the United States, Russia, and China, have successfully achieved soft landings on the Moon.
